AM visits AIDS Trust Cymru in Swansea

Plaid Cymru Assembly Member for South Wales West, Bethan Jenkins, today (14/11/08) visited AIDS Trust Cymru’s Day Centre in Swansea.

Ms Jenkins visited the Day Centre to discuss funding for the Centre which is expected to be cut for the next financial year.

Speaking from Swansea today, Ms Jenkins said:

“Many people rely on the services of the Day Centre in Swansea for day-to-day support for living with HIV/AIDS. I am very concerned for the future of the centre if the local LHB decides to cut funding as this may jeopardise the future of the charity in Swansea.

“AIDS Trust Cymru relies on core funding from the Local Health Board and for a viable future it needs continued support. Despite great advances in medication, there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS, and medication for HIV/AIDS has profound effects on quality of life, the side-effects can be debilitating,

“It is vital that we have services in the community to help people and the Day Care Centre in Swansea plays an invaluable role in providing such services and care.”
