Plaid AM to visit Lets Garw and Timebank projects in Pontycymmer

Plaid AM for South Wales West, which includes the Garw Valley, will tomorrow (5/08/09) visit LETS Garw and TimeBank in Pontycymmer as part of her work over the summer to meet local groups, and to assist in promoting their work.

Bethan Jenkins AM said:

“I am looking forward to meeting with those who work for LETS Garw and the TimeBank initiative, and those who benefit from them in the area. The scheme is run by local people, for local people, and is there to improve people’s skills, to encourage co-operation and to develop a feeling of community in the area.’

Bethan Jenkins AM added:

‘As child poverty spokesperson for Plaid Cymru at the National Assembly, I hope to discover how such projects work on the ground so as to alleviate poverty, especially in former coal mining areas of South Wales.’

‘The TimeBank concept is novel, where people can access services, training or skills for the hours that they devote to certain projects, and not for money. I look forward to meeting those involved in the TimeBank scheme, and hope that it can be emulated elsewhere in the region.’
